There are a wealth of workforce agencies and partners in the Columbus community who provide fee and non-fee based services to prepare you for employment. These organizations deal with individuals from entry level to executive and often offer free placement assistance and ongoing supportive services after hire. Many train applicants in-house to meet pre-employment, soft skill and some industry specific skill needs.

The wide array of treatment options enables clients to access the most appropriate level of care as they address their mental health needs.

In addition to several community-based residential and treatment programs, The Buckeye Ranch offers Helping Initiate Readiness for Employment (H.I.R.E.). The H.I.R.E. Program strives to improve the skills that enable youth from disadvantaged backgrounds to acquire and maintain employment. Through resume development, career exploration and basic workplace skills training, the students gain the knowledge necessary to be successful in the workplace.

This is a statewide quality and productivity improvement resource available to all Ohio businesses seeking to improve their selection, development and retention of talented people. The network is made up of more than 52 public two-year community and technical colleges and university branch campuses that have worked together since 1986 to serve Ohio employers. They partner with companies to profile jobs, assess skill requirements, screen new hires, and deliver training that continually supports business success. Ohio companies can obtain assistance in pre-employment screening, job profiling, employee selection, training needs analysis, employment training and development, and succession planning.

Forty Plus of Central Ohio is a nonprofit, member operated, job search training organization for experienced professionals of all ages, who are actively seeking better career opportunities. Its name is based on the philosophy that it takes 40+ hours per week to conduct an effective and focused job search. The strength of Forty Plus lies in its membership – professionals helping and supporting other professionals. In fact, members have instant access to business contacts and other networking opportunities through Forty Plus alumni.

Forty Plus offers its members multiple benefits, including weekly business meetings with speakers on a variety of job search and career topics; training classes in resume development and effective oral and written job search skills; videotaped practice interviews; and negotiation techniques. It also offers generous office space complete with computers, DSL internet access, an extensive library of business publications and job search information, and other office equipment to support the job search process. Forty Plus also sends profiles of its members to over 200 central Ohio companies.

This is a four-week job readiness class, followed by two weeks of job search for those not yet placed. Class includes career assessments, computer skills instruction, financial literacy and skills needed to obtain and maintain employment. Employers teach specific components of the class and regularly pre-screen students while presenting information on their company and its current openings. Program includes: case management, job placement, job retention assistance and free babysitting during class.

This state of the art adult computer lab offers specific compute classes ranging from beginning keyboarding to advanced classes that lead to MS Certification. The Center also offers walk-in hours where you can check job posting and conduct an Internet job search. There is a one-time only membership fee of $5.00. Rental opportunities are also available.

Camp Mary Orton's Leadership and Challenge Center's trained facilitators offer ground initiatives, high ropes courses and adventure elements designed to meet the specific team building goals of corporate, school and community groups. The 167 acres offers rental opportunities for conference space, historic lodge, company picnics and other events.

The GCEMO is a catalyst for workforce development that links Heritage District (Empowerment Zone/EZ) residents, community-based organizations and employers to match people to jobs, improve job retention, and enhance the Columbus economy. Employers are offered valuable technical assistance services, which support their workforce needs and promote hiring and retention of employees within the Heritage Districts. All fees are paid by the Columbus Compact Corporation and the City of Columbus.

The Neighborhood House, Inc. Resource Center provides individual job and career counseling, resume and cover letter development, self-employment counseling and individual fee-based business plan writing, open/free computer lab for online job search and application, job referrals, employer-specific job fairs.

Their mission is to assist individuals, particularly women in transition, to attain and maintain economic self-sufficiency. The vision is to assist our clients in gaining skills, information and resources vital to securing and retaining meaningful employment with fair compensation and benefits. The Center for New Directions does the following:

The Career Academy, Job Readiness Training Program, offers comprehensive job assistance and placement services for eligible adults. Eligible program participants include the following:

  • Adults who are homeless (or have been homeless within the last six months); and are either custodial, or non-custodial, parents; and who (may/ may not) receive either cash assistance and/or food stamps from the Franklin County Department of Job and Family Services.
  • Homeless male/female veterans who are currently homeless (or have been homeless within the last six months); veterans who have a minimum of six months of active service with the military; and veterans who have separated from the military with any discharge other than a dishonorable discharge.
  • The Career Academy workforce development initiatives include strategic activities to promote recruitment and retention.
