Goal: To build upon the regions assets. Upgrade the business environment to further establish Columbus a "destination of choice" for logistics and distribution companies across all elements of the value chain.
Columbus' core Advanced Logistics industry is 13% more concentrated than the rest of the United States. Our city enjoys substantial employment in 18 market segments, with significant strengths in Air Freight, Warehousing, Long Distance Trucking, Couriers, and Key Distribution Segments. Our growth rate in this industry is healthy and outpaces comparable regions.
An opportunity exists within this industry to expand upon this foundation and position Columbus as a "destination of choice" for logistics and distribution companies.
Over the past two months, Battelle has been assisting CompeteColumbus in the preparation of an Advanced Logistics strategy to strengthen and expand the economic base of Central Ohio, with an emphasis on increasing the number of high wage jobs and technology-driven enterprises.
Recently, the Battelle Project Team met with the Compete Columbus' Advanced Logistics Executive Steering Committee which represents a cross-section of industry members from the Central Ohio region.
A comprehensive economic analysis of the advanced logistics industries is in progress which will provide a better understanding of current strengths, identify trends and emerging industries within the technology field. A workforce analysis currently being conducted will provide insight regarding the occupational structure of Central Ohio's advanced logistics industries.
Clearly understanding both our strengths, the market's demands and our ability to address these demands with local resources will create growth within the advanced logistics industries and those industries that support and supply them.
