Retail outlook brightens in central Ohio

The central Ohio retail industry has stabilized after a difficult decade, and opportunities exist going forward, according to a new report.
Since a peak of 13.2 percent in 2009, the retail vacancy rate in Franklin County and the adjacent six counties steadily decreased to 11 percent in the fourth quarter of 2011. This year, the rate could fall to a five-year low.
“This is still a relatively strong retail economy, even though a lot of shopping is being done online,” said Chamber President and CEO Michael Dalby. “Yes, people buy a lot online, but they still like that social interaction of shopping.” Read more.
